What Were You Thinking?

Positive thinking and Godly self talk are extremely important tools for a successful and meaningful life. Our thoughts and our words have a great impact on our lives, so it is important to be mindful of them and make sure they are in line with God’s plan and our personal goals.

Sometimes we can’t blame our lack of growth or breakthrough on other people or our current circumstances, we sabotage ourselves with negative thoughts.

To help us on your journey to better thinking and speaking, here are some tips on how to practice positive thinking and self talk:

    1. Start every day with prayer and positive affirmations. These could be Bible verses, life quotes or even simple statements. Remind yourself of your worth and the values that you represent.
    2. Monitor your thoughts. Think about what your thinking about. Become aware of the thoughts that are running through your head and start paying attention to how they make you feel. Are they uplifting or do they bring you down? If they don’t agree with God’s word, immediately reject them and speak a replacement out of your mouth. Remember, you can’t fight a thought with a thought; you must counteract with words.
    3. Practice gratitude. This is a great way to reframe your thoughts and to focus on the good things in life. Make a list of all the things that you are thankful for and reflect on them each day. Be mindful to show gratitude to people around you. Sow seeds of gratitude daily and you will reap a great harvest.
    4. Set goals. Having goals gives you something to work towards and helps to keep your mind focused on the future. Keep your goals realistic and achievable, and break them down into smaller steps.
    5. Speak kindly to yourself. Self talk is often the voice in your head, so make sure that it is kind and encouraging. Don’t be too hard on yourself and be aware of the language you’re using. Practice forgiveness…for others and for yourself. Be mindful to be a great forgiver and don’t hold grudges.
    6. Surround yourself with positive people. It’s important to have people in your life who will lift you up, not tear you down. They can help to remind you of your worth and your goals, and provide support when you need it.

One last thing, resist comparing yourself with other people. Jesus is our model and Who we should be striving to be like every day.

To recap: positive thinking and Godly self talk are foundational tools in creating and maintaining a meaningful life. Start by monitoring your thoughts and speaking kindly to yourself. Set goals, practice gratitude, and surround yourself with positive people. Purpose in your heart to be disciplined and you’ll be on your way to a happier and more fulfilling life!

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
