Perseverance – Waiting in Faith When Breakthrough Seems Impossible

Did you know that Thomas Edison failed hundreds, possibly even thousands of times before he successfully invented the lightbulb? Walt Disney was fired from the Kansas City Star because his boss thought he lacked creativity! What about Henry Ford who went bankrupt 5 times before successfully establishing the Ford Motor Company? Who can overlook Colonel Sanders who submitted his fried chicken recipe to 1,009 restaurants before ever finding a buyer?

All of these individuals had one thing in common…perseverance. They refused to give up because they KNEW what was inside of them was destined to get out.

What area in your life are you waiting for a breakthrough in right now? Do your current circumstances tempt you to throw in the towel and just give up because it looks impossible? Be encouraged today; you are NOT alone. Millions of us are waiting for breakthroughs in one or more areas of our lives. Some of us need a medical miracle, some may need a financial breakthrough. How many of us need a breakthrough in our marriages or other relationships?

We have been praying and waiting so long and sometimes, it just seems hopeless. God wants to remind us today that He specializes in hopeless cases. There’s nothing too hard for Him to accomplish. When we come to the end of what we can do, we are just at the beginning of what God can do. We have several examples in the Bible of God breaking through in what seemed to be an impossible situation. As a matter of fact, one of the names of God is Baal-perazim, The Lord of Breakthrough! (2 Samuel 5:20)

In the New Testament book of Hebrews, chapter eleven is filled with examples of God’s faithfulness and how He helped people breakthrough impossible situations, because of their faith. This particular chapter is commonly referred to as the Hall of Fame of Faith because it recounts the great faith of people facing inconceivable circumstances.

“It was by faith that the people of Israel went right through the Red Sea as though they were on dry ground. But when the Egyptians tried to follow, they were all drowned. It was by faith that the people of Israel marched around Jericho for seven days, and the walls came crashing down. It was by faith that Rahab the prostitute was not destroyed with the people in her city who refused to obey God. For she had given a friendly welcome to the spies. How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets. By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. Women received their loved ones back again from death.”

Hebrews 11:29- (NLT)

All of these people persevered, even though some of them did not receive all that God had promised in their lifetime. What?!? Why bother then? If God might not answer, then why pray, why believe, why even hope? Why set ourselves up for disappointment? Because “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead” (James 2:26 NLT) And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 NLT)

My encouragement to you this month is, DON’T GIVE UP! Persevere in faith, believing that Baal- perazim, The Lord of Breakthrough is on your side! God doesn’t have favorites! What he did for Abraham and Sarah, He will do for you! Your situation is not impossible and it’s definitely not too hard for God. Make up your mind today that no matter what, you will stay in faith and keep believing for your breakthrough! Our faith pleases God!
