Lose Your“self” & Find Your Purpose

We are bombarded daily with every kind of “self-help” idea, guaranteed to fix whatever ailment we suffer from. The problem is, they’re only temporary. They may work for a few minutes, a day or even a year, but eventually the effects wear off and we find ourselves back where we were or even worse. Why is that? We will attempt to uncover a few things and bring forward some tips that will help us overcome our”selves” and discover our purpose.

Have you noticed how many “self” titles are out there? Here’s just a few I could think of off the top of my head:

Self help, self care, self confidence, self esteem, selfie, self love, self hatred, self adhesive, self defense and self control.

Besides the obvious common denominator of “self”, what jumps out at you about those phrases? The very essence of looking into our”selves” for solutions implies that we are able to fix our”selves”. I believe this is the core of many recurring frustrations that plague individuals, some of them for their entire lives.

The world points us to our”selves” and temporary man-made fixes. To repeat a common question, “How’s that working for you?”

I was always “self-sufficient”. I didn’t want to rely on anybody for ANYTHING. That way they didn’t have power over me. However, this loner mentality cost me dearly. I saw zero value in relationships with other people because first of all, I didn’t trust anyone and secondly, I didn’t want to need anyone for anything. I know, it’s a messed up mentality.

I finally reached the end of my”self” when I was reduced to a drug addicted, alcoholic, pregnant brothel prostitute outside of Las Vegas. I was out of answers and my “self” medicating was killing me. I needed to look somewhere else.

It was at my lowest point, I remembered God. Ashamed and embarrassed at my condition and through tears, I reached out to Jesus for help. From

that moment, I no longer looked to my“self” for anything, I looked to Him. In my filth, He embraced me and His power set me free from everything I was enslaved to for so long. Nothing I tried before was able to do that.

Even though I had everything the world says should make you happy….money, men, meth, material things….all of it left me broken, angry and hopeless.

When I finally lost my”self”, I discovered my purpose. It was in God, the One who created me and knew me better than I knew myself. He had always been there, even in my worst moments and He will always be there for me.

Do you find your”self” frustrated because you continue to experience the same challenges year after year? I would like to introduce you to the One who set me free from my”self” and showed me my purpose in life.

His Name is Jesus. He loves you more than you know and He is the ONLY permanent solution that is guaranteed to help your”self”.

Yes, He’s real. And He’s not disappointed or disgusted with you. He knows the only reason you ended up in the place your in is because of deception…some from our enemy, the devil, but mostly because of our” selves”.

I have good news for you this Christmas season. Jesus is much more than a myth or a nice story everyone talks about this time of year. He is the risen, resurrected Son of God. He died for your sins and mine in order to save us from our”selves”, but He didn’t stay in the grave. Three days after He was crucified, He rose from the dead and is alive in heaven right now waiting for you to invite Him into your mess, just like I did.

Don’t wait another day. Don’t put it off anymore. Reach out to Jesus. He knows. He’s ready for you and He can’t wait to show you the wonderful plans He has for your life.

Merry Christmas, Judy
